COVID-19 "At-Home" Rapid Antigen Test Kits

The town of Hinsdale has received an allotment of COVID-19 “At-Home” rapid antigen test kits from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The test kits are free to the public and are available at the Police Station. You may sign for a kit at the Police Station during normal opening hours.

Please read the following information about the tests, which was issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The Baker-Polito Administration today is pleased to announce the availability of free at home COVID-19 test kits for residents across the Commonwealth.  The Administration has purchased 2.1 million over-the-counter (OTC) at-home rapid antigen tests from iHealth Labs that will be delivered to 102 towns with the highest estimated percentage of families living below the poverty level, based on Census Bureau data.

This at-home test initiative builds on the first in the nation statewide free “Stop the Spread” COVID-19 testing infrastructure and serves as another tool to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.

Hinsdale is receiving an allocation of iHealth Labs rapid antigen self-tests purchased by the State. They are being provided free of charge for distribution to the public in your community, with an emphasis on increasing access for individuals and families who are facing financial hardship.  While the actual distribution is the responsibility of your municipality, it is the state’s expectation that they be allocated equitably and at locations accessible to individuals and families who are determined to be in high need and as quickly as possible during the holiday season.

Your community, Hinsdale, has been allocated 540 iHealth Labs OTC Rapid Antigen kits.  Each test kit has two tests, for a total 1,080 tests.

Testing & Reporting Information

The tests can be completed by residents at home. Test results are available in 15 minutes and samples do not need to go to a laboratory.  People do not need a cell phone or computer for any part of the test.  The tests are for any individuals 2 years of age and up, regardless of vaccination status or whether they have symptoms.

There is no mechanism with these tests to report results and test results do not need to be reported to public health.  However, people who test positive should isolate for 10 days and notify their close contacts that they may have been exposed to COVID-19.  If someone needs help with support resources to be able to safely isolate or quarantine, the website information will direct them to contact their health care provider or the local board of health.
