Cemetery Committee

It is the goal of the Hinsdale Cemetery Committee to protect, preserve and maintain the Maple Street Cemetery located off Route 143. The Cemetery Committee strives to maintain the cemetery to a standard that the residents can be proud of and respect those buried at the Cemetery.

The Cemetery Committee is currently a volunteer team of one.  As such, only a limited number of activities can be undertaken.  If you are interested in joining the Cemetery Committee, please contact the Town Manager.   

The Cemetery Committee main responsibilities include:

  • Work with Funeral Homes, Family Members, and Landscaping Services on scheduling burials;
  • Collect fees from burials, pouring foundations, and sale of lots to be presented to Town Treasurer;
  • Oversee planning and implementation of capital projects;
  • Prepare annual budget request and manage budget throughout the Town fiscal year;
  • Conduct research on those buried for historical purposes and interest;
  • Respond to email and voicemail requests for cemetery related information;
  • Raise and lower flag on significant Military holidays;
  • Identify and mark burial locations to prepare grave sites;
  • Replace veteran flags and markers…keep them visible and vibrant;
  • Work with Families to obtain Military Marker for Veteran’s Service through Veteran’s Affairs;
  • Update rules and regulations to honor and respect those who are buried and guests to the Cemetery.
