Transfer Station Policy & Fees

Transfer Station Policy

The Hinsdale Transfer Station is a user-based service operated for the benefit of its residents who have purchased transfer station permits.

  • All residents using the Transfer Station facility must have a current valid permit prominently displayed in the vehicle to be visible to the Transfer Station Attendant (Preferred hanging from the rearview mirror). Only household trash should be disposed of in the trash compactor. Each bag must have one “bag tag” wrapped around the neck of the bag up to 33 gallons.
  • An apartment (or other occupied rental or leased property) is considered a household and must have a Transfer Station ID sticker prominently displayed as described above.
  • No construction debris should be disposed of in the trash compactor. Separate containers are available for non-household trash and other bulky items or debris. A separate fee will be charged for the disposal of these items.
  • Recycling of paper, cardboard, metal, and some plastic is encouraged and is available to all households with a Transfer Station permit. Newspapers and cardboard should be packaged in paper bags or boxes (multi boxes need to be broken down). Newspapers and magazines should not be bundled with string or twine.

Permit & Bag Tag Fees

Annual permits/tags and bag stickers are available for purchase in person at Town Hall, by mail, or online.

The cost of the annual permit/tag will remain at $75. Residents wishing a second permit for a vehicle in the same household can get one at no additional charge.
